Saturday in Zanesfield, Ohio

Mollie Johns (Myra & Ruby in background)
Saturday's play was a daylong affair beginning around 10:00 AM.  There were somewhere around 35 to 40 players joining in the fun.  Around midday, Mollie Johns was Chief Cook for the burgers-dogs-sides lunch provided by the club.  Very good!  The weather was just about perfect.  There was just enough cloud cover throughout the day to help us keep our cool, but enough sun peeking through routinely to keep it from seeming dreary.

Despite the cloud cover, there were quite a few red necks (and faces) by the end of the long day's play.  We didn't wrap up play until around 8:00 PM.  It was just about as perfect as a day could be for avid petanquers (petanquists?).

Then, when evening arrived, we moved the party a half mile or so to Tom's fabulous place in the nearby forest.  The pictures can hardly convey how spectacular the scene was.  There was the lovely home itself, a backyard fireplace complete with a built-in wood-fired pizza oven (!), and the finishing touch-- an amazing golf-course-quality green for croquet!  You gotta see it to believe it!

Croquet, anyone?
