Petanque in the mountains!

Kirk, Wyatt, and UIJIN!

We made the drive from the Lincolnton home up to Kirk&Bo's on Monday afternoon. They've begun opening their home court to play on Mondays at 4:00.

We were surprised to see a familiar face from the past as Bo's brother, Uijin, and his two kids came by to visit and play. Uijin has been an avid player in the past, but not active since 2013. It was really great to see him again, and we can only hope he might decide to play frequently once again, as he was one of our best players before going into "semi-retirement."

...and Parker
We missed Saturday play in Raleigh on August 21st because of the conflict with 3rd Saturday play at Nevin Park in Charlotte, but here are a few shots from Bo's FACEBOOK page. She and Kirk said they had around 15 players--that's a great turnout for a new venue.

Another large crowd at Miller Park

We had so many players at Miller Park on Sunday that Shirley had to abandon play for part of the afternoon and help facilitate organizing and assigning teams and courts. We had several headcounts--best guess was either 28 or 29. People in motion!

Leslie's getting married!

Our friend Leslie Godshall is soon (~3 weeks) to be married! Congratulations to Harvey Rock on the catch of his life.

We've only met Harvey once before when Leslie brought him by the Morganton terrain during one of our tournaments there. Unfortunately for us, there was so much going on with the tournament that we didn't get to spend much time with the two of them.

Also unfortunately for us, Leslie is selling her Charlotte home and will be moving a little further away--Augusta, Georgia, is just over the South Carolina line.

We hope she and Harvey will manage to find time to visit one of our Carolina club venues in the not-too-distant future.

Made in the shade--petanque at Tanger Gardens

Now that we've started playing at 9:00 AM, we have really nice shade for most of the morning in Greensboro.

Nice to have Nelson and Rebekah over from Winston. It was Nelson's first time at Tanger Gardens.

Tina, Nelson, and Bek joined Shirley and me for post-petanque lunch at Kiosco Mexican Grill. Very good!

Tuesday night in Hickory

Stormy evening weather in the Carolinas kept Danny&Sue from making the drive down the mountains from Crossnore and Tracie had to work, so we only had five players for play in Marc's warehouse on Tuesday night.

Still, it was great to be able to play right through a pouring rainstorm and served to reemphasize that people close enough to Hickory to warrant the drive can now play in all weather conditions on Tuesday nights at five o'clock.

Shirley and I did manage to win one game against the formidable triples team of Marc, Juan, and Kathy. They'll be tough to beat on the 29th of August in Asheville for the Mid-America Regional Mixed Triples title.

Oh, by the way, though we did win a game, we lost three!

Another good Sunday crowd at Miller Park

The threat of thunderstorms did not deter the fifteen or so players who came out to Winston-Salem's Miller Park on Sunday. The rains never came--bright sun caused Preston to set up two sun shelters and his misting station!
