New players at Greensboro

New player Jim trying to learn anew game after a stroke.

We had Mel, Jim, Neal, Jimmy, Marty, Kerry (Miller Park regular), and Lori as first or second time players yesterday at Tanger Gardens. In addition, Ann and David Fechner returned after an absence of several weeks.

With Shirley, Patrick, and me, we had a nice turnout and hope to grow a core group more quickly than we once thought.

Missing were John and Mary Hayes, local players now vacationing in Greece!

If it's Sunday, it's Miller time!

We had about a dozen players yesterday at Miller Park for Sunday afternoon play. It was raining as we left Lexington to make the 30 mile drive to Winston-Salem, so that may have discouraged some from coming out to play.

We were glad to see Cheryl again, but "Stump" went fishing and was a no-show for petanque. He came into our group in the first place as a bass fishing buddy of our friend Terry Wien (and Sue), so we know that fishing comes first. Still, he's a fine petanque-a-teer when he can come and is even in the process of making a court at home.

October 2013: 3rd Saturday play at Nevin park

We had a little rain--just sprinkles--early on in Saturday's play at Nevin Park in Charlotte, but, once that passed, the rest of the day wasn't bad. Maybe a little cool for some, as you can see in the pictures, but still shorts and t-shirts weather for others.

Dr. Ed brought us a new player. Thanks, Ed, for bringing Joe B. Martin (sorry, no photo!) out to play. We hope to see more of him, and he promised to bring his brother around too.

Welcome back, Mary Jo!

Mary Jo Wilson and Mary Hayes

Monday afternoon's play at Tanger Gardens (1105 Hobbs Rd, Greensboro) saw the return to our group of Mary Jo Wilson. Because of care-giving responsibilities, she had not been able to play for over a year.

We also had a couple of new players on Monday. Marty and Lori came back after having thrown a few boules the previous Monday. They even went so far as to buy a couple of sets of recreational boules so they could practice between our weekly Monday sessions. We hope to see them frequently with the Greensboro group.

Shirley spent most of Monday's play session teaching some walk-up players to play. There was a dad with his two young sons along with Doug, a returning player who had been with us before.
