Pease Park on July 26th

We spent the afternoon of my birthday playing petanque at Pease Park in Austin, Texas.  We're out visiting the family and hope to get a few chances to play with some of the Heart of Texas Petanque Club gang while we're here.  We expect 100 F degrees, or close to it, just about every day, so a little shade is most welcome out here.  We're also looking forward to seeing the new dedicated petanque park that the city built out near the Mueller Hangar where we've played in the past.  We hope to have some pictures from there in a few days.

Boules, Bluegrass, and Barbecue

Balsam Range
From Austin,Texas, to Spruce Pine, NC

Kristi, Sue, Sandy, and Bo

Angela

The Edwards family, Kirk, Bo, and Parker, invited the group to join them over the weekend in Spruce Pine for the town's annual barbecue festival.  We drove up to visit Danny and Sue in Crossnore, so, the four of us made the trip on over to Spruce Pine to join the festivities.  A Texas friend of ours, Sandy Boone, happened to be visiting family in Athens, Georgia.  She made the 3 1/2 hour drive up to join s as well.

We played petanque at the Edwards home starting around 10:00 AM on Saturday.  Around lunch time the entire gang took the short walk from the terrain to the downtown area where we had lunch at The Knife and Fork, a well-known Spruce Pine dining establishment.

The afternoon saw some of us enjoying the bluegrass music on the main stage, some shopping and sightseeing, and some returning to the terrain to continue petanque.  We played until almost the 8:00 PM starting time for the evening's headline group, Balsam Range.  Those of us who saw the band perform came away very impressed with the quality of the music.  It was all a great time.  Our thanks go out to the Edwards family for hosting.

Rising star

Hot day at Miller Park with temps reaching the 90s.  Kirk, Bo, Parker, Kristi, Cruz, and Georgie made the trip down from the mountains to play.  Kristi and Cruz brought a friend, Pablin, who lives in Lexington, so maybe we'll see more of him in the future.

There was also a good turnout from the "locals."  Ed and Bertie drove over from Lexington, while Kaye made the trip from Statesville.  .  James, Joseph, Gail, Bob, Joe, Rom, Fred,  Shirley, and I rounded out the group.
