What a wet and wild weekend we had! Saturday's weather lived up to the damp and gloomy forecast of which we'd all been aware-- but, of course, had hoped would not actually materialize. But, hey, you just can't control the weather!
Still, the entire group behaved like the troopers they are and did not complain. So, we did our best to have a good and fair tournament and hope that everyone thinks we, at least for the most part, succeeded. Bill Cooke did a great job as Tournament Director under trying circumstances. Despite the horrendous downpours that came and went throughout the day, we managed to finish the play with only one major concession to the weather.

Halfway through the second round of morning qualifying the sky opened up and unloaded to the extent that continuing the round at that point was nearly impossible. The decision was made to suspend play for a rain delay, but some had a few boules to play to finish their end-in-process and really took a drenching.

Nevertheless, thanks to heroic efforts of many (Kirk, Marc, Juan, Gary Montgomery and several others helped try to sweep and drain the terrain), and a wonderful lunch brought in from Bouchon, we were able to recover and finish the second round. The organizers and the jury decided to forego the third round of qualifying due to the still deteriorating condition of the terrain as showers continued and the forecast of perhaps another band of storms still to come.

Congratulations to all the winners. Many, many thanks to the twelve participating teams who made the journey to play despite the forecast. And, of course, thanks to Michel, Bill, and the rest of the Asheville gang for hosting. We hope the inaugural FPUSA Asheville tournament may be the first of many to come.

We made it through this one relatively unbowed and unscathed, so it should be a breeze from here!
