Roswell-- day 2

Peter Gibson

Mini-tournament champions: Dale, Debby, Patrick

At Pizzeria Lucca

There was an open mini-tournament on Saturday afternoon. Peter decided on a four hour maximum event, so we began play a 1:00 PM and planned to finish at 5:00 PM. For those of us used to tournaments starting as early as 8:00 AM and lasting until almost 8:00 PM, coming up with a format for a four hour start-to-finish tournament was difficult. Here is what we finally did:
It was actually great fun. We began with sixteen teams, so after Round 1 we had eight teams at 1-0 and eight teams at 0-1. In Round 2, the winners from Round 1 played each other--same with the losers, they played each other. So, after Round 2 the four teams that were 2-0 were seeded into the Concours semi-final; the four teams that were 0-2 were eliminated; and, the lowest ranked four teams from the eight teams in the 1-1 group were also eliminated. That left the four highest ranked teams in the 1-1 group to be seeded directly into the Consolante semi-finals.

It worked great: much better than single elimination where you run the risk of being eliminated after one game.

The Concours champions were Dale, Debby, and Patrick from Amelia Island Boules Club. Shirley, Tracie, and I from Carolina Petanque were second place. Rebekah from Carolina Petanque, with Jon from Oh La La and Songmi from AIBC, won the Consolante.
