Final Day of 2016 Petanque America Open

Khalid and Juan lost to Marco Foyot and Bernard Martin in the round of 16-- 13 to 11! Shirley and I beat the #14 ranked team from Seaside, FL, in our first game on Sunday which put us into the round of 16 in the #14 spot. Unfortunately, our streak of six straight wins ended abruptly when we faced the #3 team of Mohamed Boulahoual (Cincinnati) and Jack Vijit (Chicago) of the Zanesfield Petanque Club and could only manage a single point!
Carolina did have some teams "in the money." Parker and Bo ( 3 and 2 on Saturday) finished second in Concours Bb (teams ranked #33 through #64 who lost in Sunday's first round); John Gantt and Kathy Cline were second in one of the Consolante groups (teams ranked lower than 64th);  Marc Quilici and Juan Hernandez lost in the Quarter Finals of Concours B (teams ranked #33 through #64 who won in the first round on Sunday), but that was good enough to get them a $100 check.
Here are the full results:
Congratulations to Jimmy Weinsier, President of Amelia Island Boules Club, and all his helpers, to Philippe Boets, owner of Petanque America, to Xavier Thibaud and Ernesto Santos, Tournament Directors, to all the FPUSA umpires who participated, and to the City of Fernandina Beach for putting on a world-class affair!
