Lakeland, Florida on 3/12/2026

We got to play with Terry & Sue at their beautiful home in Lakeland. We've been best of friends for about 45 years. They are always so gracious when we visit.

Our friends Donnie Baker and Karen Eggener also joined in the good time.

First time players. Hope they will return!

We were surprised to see our friends Bobby & Peggy Huffman, along with their daughter Leah, show up at Miller Park on Sunday.

We've known Bobby and Peggy for over forty years and have not seen them in quite a while. They were in Winston-Salem to check on Peggy's sister and just dropped by to say hello.

Large crowd in Greensboro (3/4/2026)

Tanger Gardens consistently has crowds near, at, or exceeding capacity for the four courts. I don't think there is any opportunity for expanding the number of courts there as the facility is primarily a Botanical Garden. We are the only other activity there, and it took us many years before we were allowed a real terrain there. Before then, our play was limited to a gravel roadway in the maintenance area of the park.

The day after the mini-tournament Winter Meltdown saw regular Sunday play resume at Miller Park.

Barb's creation!

Preston Myers directed an abbreviated, fun tournament to celebrate nearing the end of winter weather in the Carolinas. There were three qualifying rounds of 45 minutes duration followed by quarter finals, semi finals, and finals in both Concours and Consolante divisions.

The rules for the day allowed teams of either two or three players which provided more flexibility in team formation and gave folks who might need a break a chance to sit out a game or two if need be, as a team of three was allowed to revert to a team of two before the  start of each round of play.

Special thanks to Barb, of Brasstown Chocolates, for creating unique chocolate snowmen for the event.

 Results:

Concours

1st Mouhrite Louali and Abdallah Smahi

2nd  Monica Moczek and Harry Moczec

3rd Jim Clapper and James Clapper

Consolante

1st Preston Myers and Jeff Fabrizio

2nd Bo Edwards and Shannon Hodege

3rd Jesse Israel and Holly Israel
