We had fifteen teams participating in Asheville Select Doubles on Sunday, The event was held at Michel's RendezVous French Comfort Food restaurant located at 184 New Haw Creek Rd. in Asheville.

Bill Cooke, Carolina Petanque Sport Director, was the Tournament Director and non-playing Head Umpire.

The day's format called for an abbreviated qualifying session of two games following which teams were ranked using our usual WINS/POINT DIFFERENTIAL/POINT QUOTIENT system.

Here are the rankings:

After the two qualifying rounds and a GREAT lunch from RendezVous (salmon, chicken, potatoes, green beans, salad, bread, etc and cake-Happy Birthday to Danny!-), we proceeded to the afternoon's single-elimination play with 8 teams in the Concours (Championship) bracket and 7 teams in the Consolante (Consolation) bracket.

Congratulations to all the winners. There was a very competitive field, Shirley and I only lost one game (13-12) and still managed to finish no better than 3rd place. Marc and Juan finished the day as Champions with a 5-0 W/L record after a very close 13-10 first-qualifying game win over relatively new players Dick and Dawn (Shirley signed them up for Carolina Petanque membership!).

Danny and Sue were Runners-up, defeating Shirley and me 13-12 in the semi-final after being down 13-8 before scoring 4 points in the next-to-last END to tie the game at 12-12.

Tracie and Cherri were Consolante winners, defeating Jordan and Shannon of the Asheville area group.

Though it was a warm day by Asheville standards with temps in the 80s, and tiring as usual on tournament days, everyone had a lot of fun and we're now looking ahead to the upcoming Morganton, NC, Select Doubles.
