Consolante Runners-up Gary & Khalid (w/Jamil Sopher)

We had a lot of fun but mediocre results in Arlington (/Washington). Carolina had players on four teams: Bill Cooke with Jean from DC; Shirley with Honor from GA ; Rebekah with Nelson; and Khalid with me.

Three of our four teams were 2 and 1 after qualifying rounds and Bek/Nelson played okay but got shut out.

As it turned out, 2W&1L was not good enough to get any Carolina teams in the Concours. They only took eight teams into Concours (of 23). Gary/Khalid and Shirley/Honor both won in the Consolante quarterfinals while Bill/Jean and Rebekah/Nelson lost.

As luck would have it, Khalid/Gary had to play Honor/Shirley in the Consolante semi-finals. Good game, but we won.

Wrapping up Carolina efforts for the day, Gary/Khalid lost to Philippe/Stacie in the Consolante finals when the jack was knocked out on the final end giving them four points and the win in a come-from-behind effort. We were leading 11-9 when they made their 4.

Shirley/Honor fared better, winning against our friends Jack Hanson and Jim Tierney from Michigan and Connecticut.

So Carolina took second and third in the Consolante-- both teams with overall 4W-2L records. Mediocre.

Congratulations to Concours Champions Ernesto and Patrick from La Boule New Yorkaise who played really well in defeating Jeanne-Marie (Dallas,TX) and Lucien (NY).
