Eeyore's Birthday at Pease Park

Each year since 1963 the city of Austin, Texas, whose motto is,"Keep Austin Weird," is home to a rather unique celebration of life (and weirdness!) called Eeyore's Birthday. It usually takes place on the last Saturday in April. The only connection to petanque is the venue. The Heart of Texas Petanque Club plays on Fridays and some (first, third, and fifth) Sundays at Pease Park, the home of the festival.

Since Shirley and I happened to be in town this year on April's last Saturday, we thought we'd check out the festival. After all, there's nothing like it in Lexington, North Carolina! It was a lot of fun and we enjoyed seeing the young people (and many not so young) having a good time. The music was entertaining, the vendors were numerous, and it was all in support of various local non-profit groups, so why not!?
