HoT Petanque Open

The Heart of Texas (HoT) Petanque Club held its open select doubles tournament yesterday at the French Legation in the heart of downtown Austin, Texas. The results were:

First Place-- Pascal Corchia (Dallas, TX) & Juan Garcia (Miami, FL)

Second Place-- Earl Lovell (HoT) & Trevor Lovell (HoT)

Third Place-- Rick Armstrong (HoT) & Michael Kaufman (HoT)

The winning team of two well-known and nationally accomplished players went undefeated in three qualifying rounds, a playoff round of sixteen, playoff quarter finals, playoff semi-finals, and the championship finals.

They did fall considerably behind in the championship finals to Earl & Trevor (a father-son team from HoT) before turning it around with a big end when Juan moved the jack in to an open area after his opponents had played out their boules.

Congratulations to the winners, the players, the event organizers and supporting staff for a very well planned and produced event.

(Shirley and I won our three qualifying games and were seeded number one in our pool of four teams. We had to come back from considerable deficits-- I think we were down 9-0 in one game-- in each game but managed to pull through. We had another long and difficult game in the round of sixteen against Jacques and Spiros of HoT, but we again pulled through to win. Our luck ran out in the quarter finals against Trevor and Earl of HoT. This time it was our team who had the early lead only to ultimately lose 13-11. Earl and Trevor went on to win their semi-final match before finally losing in the finals to Juan and Pascal.)

The Picture with all the Boules around the cochonet is when after I played the first boule inches in front of the cochonet and after they played their six boules and talking to Pascal I decided to throw my second boule over my first point hoping yo land on the small open space and I actually landed on the cochonet moving it a little over a meter to the left and we scored four points and the begining to the comeback.
