Lots of new faces Sunday!

We had eleven for petanque on Sunday and some spectators. Our newest member, Khalid Mesbah (at right) from Charlotte, brought a couple of friends, Abdul and Mohammed, who also played. The entire Charlotte contingent played at a very high level indeed. Just what we need to raise our standard of play a notch or so. We can't help but improve against this kind of competition!

Walt Elder (above left) , from Granada, Spain, also played at Miller Park for the first time. He's living in Boone, NC, for the summer, so we hope to see a lot more of him. Along with Khalid, he's among the very best we've seen at Miller Park. He's a pure shooter who can hit at ten meters as easily as six, but he also points exceptionally well.

Tommy Munroe (cowboy hat and sunglasses) also showed up after an absence of many months. He stopped by to play a couple of games and let us know he's moving to Los Angeles in the near future, at least for a while. He's pursuing a career as a screen writer and needs to be where the bright lights are. While we wish him nothing but success, we hope he makes it back from time to time to visit his NC friends.

All in all, a very enjoyable afternoon on the Miller Park courts (and the opponents were nice enough to keep playing and playing until my team finally won a game!).

By the way, though we were on separate courts, I understand that Josh, Michel, and Philippe all played exceptionally well, rising to the challenge of competition from some of the new players. Way to go, Carolina!
