San Antonio

Our hostess for the day

On Sunday morning (11/21/2021), Shirley and I made the 70 mile drive from our little camper in Spicewood down to the big city. San Antonio. Home of the Alamo. And The Riverwalk. And the SPURS. And big-city traffic!

And, Michelle Healey, a National Champion petanque player!

We began our visit with a stop at Michelle's place to meet her husband, Dr. Mark Healey, and see their beautiful home. Also, their petanque terrain!

Very picturesque. Michelle hosts San Antonio play on a regular basis, so if you're ever looking for a game in that area, look her up!

Mel

Lloyd

Jeff

Mourhite

Greensboro had a nice group of players on Thursday, with two new players, Jeff and Lloyd. Jeff claims to be a new player, but you wouldn't know it from how well he pointed. It's getting to be a thing--Mel made delicious apple tarts for us to keep our strength! And Judy Lavore brought extra goodies, so no excuse for not having the energy to play.

Mourhite made the trip from Charlotte and it payed off! His last boule was a carreau giving his team five points and a win.

And in Winston-Salem...

While many of our players were in Florida for the Petanque Amelia Open, and Shirley and I were in Texas visiting with our family, there was play as usual at Miller Park in Winston-Salem. From the small crowd and the attire shown in the pictures, maybe Florida and Texas were the better choice on that particular weekend!

Petanque Amelia Open--2021

Below are some pics Carolina Petanque's Mike Owens sent on November 7, 2021, less than a week before this year's edition of the Petanque Amelia Open was to start. Construction & flooding!

Then, about a week later play is happening as usual!

Finally, some pictures from Kirk's and Bo's FACEBOOK postings showing Carolina Petanque players in action at The Big Show:

Congratulations to all those who placed for awards in the 2021 Petanque Amelia Open in Florida. Carolina Petanque had nine (9) players who finished in the money! Marked with red dots on the picture below:

A special congratulations from Carolina Petanque to this year's Grand Champions, Roland & Ziggy, who defeated multi-time World Champion, Marco Foyot of France, and his partner, Bernard Martin, in the finals. Roland and Ziggy both play out of Ohio, and Ziggy is an actual member of the Zanesfield Petanque Club!

First time ever that the USA has fielded both players of the winning team at Amelia? Maybe so. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know.
