Heart of Texas

We arrived in Austin on Thursday for Sunday's Heart of Texas Open. As most of you know, we have a small travel trailer that we leave in Texas for a home base when we visit our grandkids. Here's what our campsite looked like upon our arrival. Bluebonnets!

It's a great time of the year out here-- before the 100 degree days set in for the summer.

Saturday in Lincolnton

We had eight players for Saturday's play. The weather turned out to be gorgeous and the afternoon thundershowers that were predicted managed to miss us. That's Shirley's brother, Bill, with her in the first picture. It was his first time to play with our group (we had played a couple of practice games with him at our Lexington court to show him the basics of the game), and still he and Shirley managed to win their first game playing as a team. Congratulations, Bill!

St. Patrick's Day weekend

Shirley made cookies for the gang on Sunday, and, as usual, tried to add a little color to our snack table with her table cloth and flowers.

March 11, 2012

Shirley didn't have a holiday to celebrate with her table decorations this week-- it's still a little while til St Patrick's Day-- so she went with National Peanut Month. You can look it up!

She was also excited to see a robin hanging around the courts. Guess spring really is here.

From our Charlotte members:

We had the great pleasure to meet and play petanque with Liz and Romain Bertrand this afternoon at the Kings Drive terrain in Charlotte. Romain is from Avignon and he met Liz (from Colorado) while she was teaching high school in Nimes. They were at the court with their friend Charles who lives in Rock Hill but is from Nimes. His mother is visiting from France and helped cheer us on. The young one in the attached photo is Noah Bertrand, almost three. Hope we can attract you back to Charlotte sometime. Liz and Romain feel they can connect with other potential players in Charlotte.

Anne and Ed Shoaf

Great to hear from you, Anne and Ed. We very much look forward to playing in Charlotte again soon. Just let us know when and where and we'll try to be there!

Gary and Shirley

Last Sunday

It was nice and sunny, but the cold wind made jackets necessary for the latter part of the afternoon. It's beginning to be more and more noticeable that spring in the Carolinas is on its way-- it's just not quite here yet!

It had been quite a while since Bobby & Peggy were able to join us. They had just returned from a long vacation in Viet Nam and we were delighted to see them again.
