And the winner is...

Sunday play was a round robin for the five teams in the Consolante. Winners were the team of Barbara, Stacy, and Chrissy.

In the Concours, there were two pools of four-teams-each based upon seeding from Saturday's qualifying games. After the first round, winners played winners and losers played losers in each of the pools. In the third round, the teams with 1&1 records played in each pool (barrage).

After pool play, the 2&0 team from Pool A played the 2&1 team from Pool B while the 2&0 team from Pool B played the 2&1 team from Pool A. These two pairings were the Concours Semi-finals.

The two winning teams went to the Finals while the two losing teams were deemed tied for third place. (A coin flip was used to decide pecking order should the Champions and Runners-up be unable to attend the World Championships for any reason.)

Congratulations to all the medalists and a HUGE thanks to ALL the players for participating and helping make the event a success. Special thanks to Morganton Parks and Recreation for all they did and to Mayor Ronnie Thompson for giving the kickoff address. The Burke County Visitor's Center and Chamber of Commerce went all out with a welcome package and deserve our thanks for their generosity.

I'm sure everyone joins me in thanking Kirk Edwards as Tournament Director along with his able assistant, Mike House. Thanks to John Harris, Larry Creasy, and Bill Cooke for helping with umpiring and measuring.

Thanks to Sandy Boone for her aid in the area of hospitality and for her photography of the event. I still have some more of her photos to go through and will make yet another blog entry as soon as I have done so.

Gary Montgomery deserves a special mention for helping Songmi with her children, thus allowing her to play without that added burden.

Many thanks also to all the Carolina members, and some non-members, who helped with advance court preparation and setup--making coffee, retrieving ice, raking courts, setting up and taking down sun awnings, loading and unloading chairs, etc. --on the days of the event.
