Days leading up to the WWQ

Tuesday, May 4, in Celo, NC

We had lunch before playing. Sue Daniels with the injury.

Our host, Mike House.

Terrain built on an unused tennis court!

Celo is about an hours dive from Morganton. Shirley and I had never played there before, so, when Mike House invited us, we decided to make the trip. Deep in the mountains and difficult to find, Celo is well worth the trip if you eve find yourself in the area. Contact Mike, Kirk, or Shirley.

The group of players was very welcoming to us and played several good games with our visiting crowd.

Wednesday, May 5, in Morganton, NC (Cinco de Mayo!)

Morganton Parks and Rec did a great job before, during, and after the games.

Thursday, May 6, in Morganton, NC

Dinner at Boulevard BBQ

Friday, May 7, in Morganton, NC

"Fanny" icons are part of petanque lore.

Here's another.

The practicing crowd has picked up considerably.

Made in the shade?

Gary Montgomery was a HUGE help!

As I post this BLOG update, Shirley and I are still at our Lincolnton home pondering the best way to proceed in getting back to our primary residence in Lexington, NC. We have two pickup trucks and my sports car, our travel RV, our petanque cargo van, and a lawnmower trailer w/ mower to eventually get back to Lexington, and a large percentage of service stations that are out of gasoline due to the pipeline situation that's in the news.

I'm going to have to wait until later today when we get home (if we get home?) to resume the blog update for the tournament days. It might even be tomorrow (Thursday), but we have scheduled petanque play in Greensboro (45 minutes by car northeast of Lexington) at 1:00 PM on Thursdays. Hurry, hurry, hurry seems to be our life lately.

Guess I'll just need to remember the club motto: "NO WHINING!".
