Membership drive--beyond expectations!

We chose a "Members Only" format for our 2010 CarolinaPetanque Club Tournament in large part to encourage membership. It seemed like a good bet that we would get at least one or two people who wanted to play in the tournament but, for various reasons, had never gotten around to formally joining our club.
The results were outstanding! We got 9 (yes, 9!) new members to join. We are really happy to have each and every one of them.
From top: Denise Carroll, JJ Carroll, Peggy Huffman, Bobby Huffman, Donna McClelland, Bob McClelland, Juan Hernandez, Marc Quilici, and Stacy Buff.

Labor Day Weekend in Florida

We had a great Labor Day Weekend visit with Philippe of Petanque America and Philippe Jubin's Amelia Island Boules group. Most of the shots here were of the Saturday morning play, but we've included one of Petanque America's Philippe at work in his office. Maybe this will silence all those who say that Philippe's job is all play and no work.

If it's Wednesday night, it's tournament time in Florida!

that he's been having tournaments on a regular basis each Wednesday night at the Cafe Karibo in Amelia Island, Florida, and realizing that it was only a little over a thousand miles away, we decided to make the trip. So, we played our usual six hours or so with the Heart of Texas group on Sunday and took off for Florida on Monday morning. It was well worth the drive. If you find yourself within a thousand miles or so, you should make the trip!

Random shots of Texas play

We played a lot of petanque with a lot of different people on our most recent Texas trip. Shirley managed to get photos of quite a few of them at several different venues and still play pretty well herself.

August 1, 2010, Austin, Texas

Though we haven't done any blogging lately, we couldn't miss the opportunity to post a picture of some old friends, Sasha & David, along with some new ones that we met who were visiting in Austin from Japan. Many thanks to Yoko for sending me this photo from some they took on Sunday.
