Chris Paccione relaxing between play |
We had 21 players yesterday at Miller Park in Winston-Salem. The crowds have been that many, or more, for sometime now and should only get better as the summer heat begins to depart.
One of players yesterday was a local, Francine, who happened to walk by the venue on Wednesday afternoon during our impromptu play session with Dan Dolan of Athens, GA.
Of course Shirley invited her to come back on Sunday. And she did! Happy to have you, Francine, and we have high hopes of you becoming a regular.
Chris was there for his last scheduled play before his upcoming surgery on Wednesday. We wish him all the best and a quick return to the group. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Chris's son Sebastien and his (Chris's) friend Phil were also there and we hope to see more of them in the future.
After play, 13 of us went to Mayberry's Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor for dinner. Chris generously picked up the tab for everyone and we thank him for his friendship and kind gesture. Johnnie presented him with a card signed by the players and a token donation towards a few meals should his hospital stay linger long enough that he might want a change from hospital food.
As you might imagine, Mayberry's kitchen was a little slower, service-wise, than usual with a table for 13 and Shirley and I decided to forego their delicious ice cream, knowing that we had some waiting for us in the freezer at home!
