We had a really wonderful time yesterday at Miller Park in Winston-Salem. We owe a huge thanks to Anna Marino of W-S Parks&Rec for including our event in the array of games that Piedmont Plus hosts for the "less young" crowd each year.
This year's event consisted of three abbreviated (40 minutes) rounds of doubles play where players drew for partners each round. The Swiss Hotel system (WINS, POINT DIFFERENCE, & POINT QUOTIENT) was used to determine overall ranking.
Anna then award medals by gender and age group, so everyone had a good chance of placing--true to the spirit of Senior Games. Our field of players ranged from tournament-seasoned Carolina Petanque club members to first-time players, but, somehow it all worked out and everyone seemed to have a good time and go away happy.
Success!
A special congratulations is due to our top 3 overall finishers:
1. Abdallah Smahi
2. Frank Bocci
3. Paul Kindley
Abdallah and Frank each won all three of their games. Paul won his first two games and only lost his last game by a score of 10 to 12 even though he played the very tough team of Abdallah Smahi and Rich Goldsmith. This while Paul graciously agreed to play six boules (social rules) due to one of our players having to leave early.
Thanks, Paul, for being a good sport.
Also, thanks to Bob Moyer for filling in when another of our players had to withdraw due to illness.
