Sunday in Texas

Michel, Nicolas, Amine, and Arsene

We played in a doubles tournament on Sunday at the Zaytouna Lounge,

owned and operated by our friend, Amine Najah.  There were fourteen teams playing, so Amine chose to divide them into two pools of seven teams each.  Each team played four other random teams from within their pool.  At the end of the four qualifying rounds, the two teams with the best records within each pool advanced directly into the semi-finals.

Neither Shirley nor I played particularly well; though, as usual, her pointing was better than my shooting.  Three of our four games were close (we got blown out in the other game when we shot our own best boule out in the last end and gave the other team five points!), but we came up on the losing end each time.  One of the games was tied at the end of the one-hour-plus-one-end format, but we lost in the overtime end.

There were several strong teams who could have possibly won, but, at the end of the day, Amine and Arsene from the H. o. T. club won out over Michel and Nicolas (from San Antonio) for the Championship.  The two teams tied for third place were Thierry and Jacques, along with Jim and Olivier.

Arsene Dupin, one of Sunday's winners and president of the Heart of Texas Petanque Club, posted a write-up and many very good pictures on his blog.  Here's the link:

Many thanks to Amine for organizing and sponsoring the event.
