We went downtown to Austin's 1st Street bridge for their "Art City Austin" festival to help the Heart of Texas Petanque Club demonstrate petanque. It was a lot of fun and we were happy to see many of our Texas friends for the first time in a while.
The location under the trees was great with temps hitting 90 degrees. We ended up both demonstrating and playing for about six hours.
Shirley spent most of the time instructing passersby and newcomers and just promoting the game in general to anyone who would listen.
I managed to sneak off to another area of the terrain and get into several really good practice games. Particularly notable were a series of three games that Earl Lovell of the Heart of Texas club and I played against Juan Garcia (Florida) and Pascal Corchia (Dallas, Tx). Really good games. Earl played great and we managed to hold our own against two national-class players.
We're really looking forward to tomorrow's tournament at the French Legation. 28 doubles teams!
