The Friday Panache

Friday saw the first of the weekend's three tournament days begin. The format was a panache. There were three qualifying rounds in which players were randomly paired with new partners and against new opponents in each round. At the end of the qualifying rounds, players were ranked by number of wins with point differential as the first tie-breaker and point quotient as the second.

Elimination play was a single round event in which the #1, #2, and #3 ranked players teamed as a triples team and played against the #4, #5, and #6 ranked players to determine the champions and runners-up for the day.

Congratulations to the winners, who included Shirley of Carolina Petanque, Angie of Maine Boules, and Ron of Zanesfield Petanque!

Loren McCumber (ZPC) won the pointing contest!

Zanefield, OH, Thursday

We had a nice relaxing day and got to play with several of the locals on Thursday. Check out the last picture above for a look at our court-side accommodations for the weekend. That's our SONIC camper right on the front row!

First night in Zanesfield, OH, 2019

Old friends. Night play. May 22, 2019.

2500 Queen St, Winston-Salem, NC

It's common for some of our players who are further away from the Winston-Salem area to play there on the Sunday after the 3rd Saturday play in Charlotte. Danny and Sue, from Crossnore, played in Charlotte on the 18th, spent Saturday night with us in Lexington, and played on Sunday in Winston-Salem before heading back into "the hills."

3rd Saturday play-- Nevin Park

Anna

We finally got to meet Constance!

In the last blog post I mentioned that the heat would soon call for a switch to summer hours in Winston-Salem. Now I'll add that the same thing is true fro Nevin Park in Charlotte.

Wednesday play-- Miller Park

It's beginning to be too hot for many at the scheduled 1:00 PM Wednesday start time. I'm sure we'll need to revert to summer hours soon.
