International play in Winston-Salem

Mourhite and Mariam

We were happy to have the return of Christoph, our German friend who has visited in the past, and two of his fellow Germans, Eugen & Gerhardt, at Miller Park in Winston-Salem on Sunday. They joined in our social play and were also good sports to accept the challenge, put forth to them by Shirley, to play as a team against Carolina Petanque's recently-formed triples team of Marc Quilici, Juan Hernandez, and John Wilson who are hoping to play some together in tournament play.

The contingent from Germany are currently in the USA for a couple of weeks on business, and they are dedicated enough to petanque to have made the long (about 2 hours) trip from Fayetteville to Winston-Salem.

Continuing with the international theme, Mourhite's wife, Mariam, is newly arrived in the US from Morocco. Though a new player, she showed a really impressive knack for the game and we hope we'll see her very often in the future.

It was a great pleasure to see my friends in Winston Salem again as well as to meet new friends.
We will surely come back.
