Snow on Valentines Day
The temperatures ranged from 24F to 26F, and we had a few light snow flurries as we celebrated Valentines Day 2016 at Miller Park in Winston-Salem yesterday. Eight of us turned out to brave the elements and play lasted from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM-- not too bad!
Shirley and I brought a couple of portable propane heaters to warm cold fingers, hands, and bodies. They certainly helped some because, as most of you know, there are few things any better at conducting the cold than steel petanque boules. Even with a glove on your non-playing hand (some play with two gloves, bit most prefer to retain the feel that bare-handed provides), your hands get very cold when the temps descend into the mid-twenties.
Shirley and I will be heading south before long in search of warmer climes, but I'm sure there will continue to be some play in the Carolinas in February and March.
Then comes April!
