Shirley and I took our smallest travel trailer, our 2015 SONIC, to Twelve Oaks RV Resort, located in Sanford, Florida, and just 1.9 miles from Sylvan Lake Park where Oh La La Petanque Club plays. The trip down from NC was an easy one-day tow of about 560 miles, give or take. The RV Resort is a very nice facility with easy access, pull-through campsites for people who are only planning to stay for a short visit. They even have tent sites if you prefer that style of camping. We can recommend it as a great place to stay if you enjoy camping and want to visit Oh La La for petanque.

Aaron Kianofsky Tournament in Boca Raton, Florida

Our daring-duo Mom and Son, Bo and Parker Edwards, traveled to Boca Raton over the weekend to play in the Aaron Kianofsky Open Select Triples Tournament. I borrowed the photos here from Facebook so that blog readers could also get an idea of the Boca terrain and tourney.

Congratulations to Bo and Parker and their third (sorry I didn't have her name) for finishing in 12th place. That was just good enough to be "in the money." Way to go, guys! Win or lose, you two always make our Carolina Petanque group proud.

Snow on Valentines Day

The temperatures ranged from 24F to 26F, and we had a few light snow flurries as we celebrated Valentines Day 2016 at Miller Park in Winston-Salem yesterday. Eight of us turned out to brave the elements and play lasted from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM-- not too bad!

Shirley and I brought a couple of portable propane heaters to warm cold fingers, hands, and bodies. They certainly helped some because, as most of you know, there are few things any better at conducting the cold than steel petanque boules. Even with a glove on your non-playing hand (some play with two gloves, bit most prefer to retain the feel that bare-handed provides), your hands get very cold when the temps descend into the mid-twenties.

Shirley and I will be heading south before long in search of warmer climes, but I'm sure there will continue to be some play in the Carolinas in February and March.

Then comes April!
