Sunday, September 29, 2024: HELENE

 

We were lucky here in the Triad to have missed any effects of hurricane Helene. Play was as usual on Sunday at Miller Park, but many of our western North Carolina friends were severely impacted.

We still haven't heard of any injuries of our members or contacts, but we do know the flooding caused by the storm has left many of them without power and water.

Several of our playing venues will likely require rebuilding, almost from scratch. Here is a picture of our Morganton petanque venue. The little blue dots near the top center are the fixed umbrellas you may recognize.

We expect similar damage at Celo, Asheville, and Spruce Pine.
