Great newa from Raleigh!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the pétanque courts at Pullen Park in Raleigh are complete. I went by yesterday to drop off their order of boules from Pétanque America and the courts look great!

The courts’ usage will be $7 to reserve them for 1 hour and that would include equipment (boule) rental. If the courts aren’t reserved then they are free to use.

There are 3 courts, but they are approximately 26 meters in length so could easily be set for 6 courts. Looking forward to playing with you guys on them soon!

The park staff is also very interested in hosting a clinic to teach people the game. I’ll work with them on setting a date for this soon. They will advertise it in the Raleigh Parks Department newsletter when we get it scheduled. They seem very keen on growing the sport in Raleigh. We should all congratulate Bob [and Kaye!] on this accomplishment!

I was made aware by Bob that Pullen Park is putting on a community outreach event on April 2nd. They would like to have as many pétanque players there as possible to demonstrate/teach. Holly and I will be there. I know it’s a haul for many of you but anyone who can make it would be greatly appreciated!

3/16/2025 Great weather! Large crowd.

We had the best weather of the year and the best crowd of the year yesterday at Miller Park in Winston-Salem.

There was a group of Boy Scouts who installed an outdoor chess board (looks nice!) as a project for the park, and they came over for a game before they left. Hope to see them again!

Chris brought his best friend from high school, Phil, and he played great! As it turned out through a draw of the cards, the two ended up on opposite teams for the first game and Phil's team won!

Sean came back as he's thinking of joining a team for the upcoming triples tournament on April  13.

Timothy was there--I think he's maybe only played once before.

Dr. Ed and Anne Shoaf were there. They play more frequently in Charlotte, but they weren't there on Saturday because they were visiting in Winston-Salem and celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary!!! Huge Congratulations!

Three more walk-ups-- Wayne, Debbie, and Zebediah. Better weather equals better crowds.

We had a great time on Saturday at Nevin Park as Mica and Stephane hosted play. (We missed you though, Denyse!)

3/13/2025 Indoors at Winston-Salem

First time we got to see Danny & Sue, two of Carolina Petanque's founding members, in quite a while.

There were also a bunch of kids having an afternoon at the Hanes Hosiery Community Center, so naturally we invited them to play as well.
