Historic day at Miller Park

On July 7, 2024, Carolina Petanque scheduled Sunday afternoon play to begin at Miller Park at 4:00 PM for the first time in memory. We began playing at 1:00 PM on Sundays back in around 2005 (?) even though we officially didn't form the club until 2007.

Our reasoning at the time was to allow those of the group who chose to do so to attend Sunday morning worship services and still join in playing in the afternoon.

Keeping with that tradition, play is now scheduled to start later--not sooner--in order to help to avoid some of the summer's heat. Preston issued an email on July 12th stating:

We will play again at 4 pm this week on Sunday to beat the heat a bit.. Plan on Sunday play to be at 4 pm until further notice. There was positive feedback last Sunday by many players so we will keep it at 4 pm probably through August.

I will not be setting equipment out at 1 pm . As always, the park is available for play to anyone coming out at any time... but  Sunday's official start time will be 4 pm.

Join us for some fun evening petanque. Everyone welcome.

The play pictured above on July 7th was well attended, though our decision to mark the event with a hotdog cookout may have had some bearing.
Anyway, we all had a great time and had players from Hickory, Morganton, and Greensboro as well as the locals.

We look forward to Sundays at 4:00 PM "until further notice."
