BBQ & Petanque
We had our friends Danny & Sue, Bobby & Peggy, and Rick & Maggie spend Friday through Monday with us in order for the group to attend the 29th annual Lexington Barbecue Festival on Saturday. New friends Ron & Kaye (from Stony Point) met us in the downtown area on Saturday and spent the day at the festival as well. They joined us for a barbecue sandwich lunch downtown and for a pizza dinner in the evening back at our house.
Sunday was petanque day. Bob Moyer also came down from Winston-Salem to join us. The group played from 1:30 to 7:30! Lots of good games. Carolina is beautiful in autumn.

Two dozen players!
We had another great turnout at Miller Park yesterday. Shirley counted 24 people! Ronnie, Faye, Joseph, Rom, and Barb were among those we hadn't seen for awhile. Also, Bob Moyer rejoined the group after having been absent since August (!) on his travels. Germany and Louisiana were two of the more distant places on his journey.
The mountain crowd showed up for the first time in awhile as well. Kirk, Bo, Parker, Uijin, and Lauren had attended a hot air balloon rally in Statesville (NC) on Saturday, so they made the trip over to join us on Sunday.
Many of the crowd who are planning to attend the Amelia Island Petanque America tournament in November chose to play with their doubles partner in order to get in a little teamwork practice. Juan and Fred, Kirk and Bo, Uijin and Lauren, along with Augustin and Marc were among those doing so.
Sunday play on the 28th will be in Lexington. Shirley and I will be having house guests for the weekend who will be attending the Lexington Barbecue Festival http://barbecuefestival.com/ on Saturday. We're hoping that many of them will stick around on Sunday for petanque. Everyone on the CarolinaPetanque mailing list is invited to join us on Sunday-- whether or not one plans to attend the festival on Saturday.

News from the Coast
CarolinaPetanque received an e-mail from Alex Canesse,of the well-known Canesse family who founded the Sarasota, Florida, petanque club. It seems that Alex has intentions of creating a new petanque club in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We wish him the best. If any of you know of players in that area of the Carolinas, please let us know at carolinapetanque@yahoo.com.
Miller Park Yesterday
Yesterday found us with one of the best crowds of the year at Miller Park in Winston-Salem. Players came from Lexington, Hickory, Crossnore, Stony Point, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Shirley broke out some of the pigs from her collection to serve as her picnic table centerpiece in recognition of October being the month of the nationally famous Lexington Barbecue Festival coming up on the 27th. We hope to have numerous out-of-town friends coming in for the event.
