More pix from Germany

Here are a few more shots of Bob M.'s recent trip. As I said before, the venue looks spectacular! It looks like Bob plays with a hardy group. What's a little cold weather? Even in the rain?

I think the rainy day pictures were of a tournament (triples) held on Saturday, July 11, 2009. Bob had already made his way back to the States by then. Too bad the timing of his trip didn't allow him to stay over for the tournament.

Thanks to Bob's friend Klauss Mirko for e-mailing the photos to Bob.

Miller Park on July 12

Sunday, July 12, 2009, was a very hot (by North Carolina standards) afternoon at Miller Park. With temperatures reaching the 90s and a bright, glaring sun, we started our play in the shady area by the picnic table rather than out on the courts. The surface of this area is the same texture as the courts, but there are a few more breaks and slopes. This made for interesting play.

Josh got most people's votes as the best player on this particular day even though several others played well also. He was very consistent and played a style that was a mixture of aggressive shooting and precise pointing to great effect. Good job, Josh.

Oh, by the way, Shirley's birthday picture was actually not taken until the next day (her birthday is the 13th), but I decided to include it here since she was the photographer on Sunday and no one took her picture. Happy birthday, "Mom"!!!

Randy makes a good shot!

"About time; that's my first good shot of the day!," said Randy. And, you know what? No one disagreed with him!

Bob M. in Germany

Here are a couple of i-phone shots that our own Bob Moyer took on July 4th in Germany.

Bob visits overseas quite frequently (a mysterious lady friend?) and never fails to find a place to play petanque. His e-mail just said, "in front of the castle." Don't know if he meant that literally, but it sure looks like a spectacular court yard venue for petanque.

Safe journey, Bob. See you soon.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

From Gary & Shirley at CarolinaPetanque

Terry & Sue's family visits

Terry and Sue had family visiting with them at their Lexington home on High Rock Lake and decided to bring them over for petanque on Monday evening, June 29, 2009.

That's nephew Timmy(Sue's brother's son) and his wife Melissa in the first small picture. The next photo shows sister-in-law (Sue's brother's wife), Laurie, with Sue. Finally, that's Sue's brother, Danny, along with his wife, Laurie, in the next picture.

It was a warm June evening, and the play and friendship were wonderful. Come back soon, guys!

Back to the Mountains

It was back to Sugar Mountain on June 28 for play with Walt Elder and some of his friends and family. In the larger of the pictures above, his girlfriend Stephanie looks on as Walt gives a big hug to his little sister, Katy. The next picture shows Katy, Stephanie, and Phillip looking on as Walt prepares to point. In the last one, Walt and Katy watch as Stephanie points.

Katy was visiting from Washington, DC. She plays with a group in that area from time to time. Many of you will remember Stephanie from last summer at Miller Park. She is from Spain but manages to get to the Carolinas on occasion. Phillip hails from the Raleigh area and first played with CarolinaPetanque at last year's May tournament. He and Walt are long time friends.

We had some good games and loved the scenery and cool mountain temperatures. Notice the long pants on the players. On June 28!

Shirley just reminded me to give a special thanks to Katy for sharing with us some homemade blueberry jelly from her grandmother. Thanks, Katy.
