Sugar Mountain, NC
Shirley and I were in the mountains of NC recently visiting with our friends Danny & Sue. While there, we made contact with Walt Elder (from Granada, Spain). Walt and a friend of his, Philllip Jackson (from Raleigh, NC), were able to take some time away from their summer jobs in the NC mountains to play a little petanque. Here we are (Shirley's the photographer as usual) in a HUGE parking lot on the way up to Sugar Mtn ski resort. GREAT place for petanque! Flat and hard, but not too hard, surface could accommodate probably thirty games at once and there are other parking levels just below.

Pease Park on May 29, 2009
Friday, May 29, 2009, found Shirley and me once again in the state of Texas. And if you're in Austin, Texas on a Friday, it's petanque at Pease Park!
We arrived about fifteen minutes before the 1:00 PM starting time and found that we had the place to ourselves.
People started to wander in about a half hour later. I guess it's the european way!
May 14, 2009 in Virginia
Shirley and I were in Goochland, Virginia, recently to attend a wedding reception for our nephew and his new wife (congratulations Adam and Lydia!). Since we were only about a forty-five minute drive from Richmond, we had planned in advance to get in a few games with the Boulefrogs of Churchill.
Churchill is an historic area of Richmond where many of our Virginia petanque friends live. I'm sure most of you will remember the contingent that came down to play in our 2008 CarolinaPetanque open last May. Since they were such a nice group of people, we made a mental note at the time to look them up if we were ever in the area.
We sure are glad we did! They were just as nice as we had remembered and extremely hospitable to us as visitors.
Here are just a few snaps that Shirley made of our Thursday evening play with the gang.
